Science
Birds Korea facilitates extensive range of our own research and also disseminates important works relating to the conservation of birds and their habitats of the region.
Ongoing Projects
These are a selection of ongoing projects Birds Korea is currently undertaking:
Checklist of Birds of Korea
Researching and updating checklist for the birds of Korea, with best available data, for an overview in determining conservation priorities.
Yeoncheon County Efforts
The Yeoncheon node of Birds Korea is actively working towards multiple priorities within its locality: Identification of suitable areas for Ramsar Site Designation and Jeongok Wetlands Park restoration, in conjunction with various entities, such as Yeoncheon County, University of California Berkeley students, Dr. Miyeon Yoo of Tourism Department and Land Aura.
Inner Korea Border Efforts
Strengthening collaboration for conservation in the inner korean border region, with a special focus on cranes and geese, in preparation for the 2026 IUCN Goose Specialist meeting in the Republic of Korea, working with Hanns Seidel.
Nakdong Estuary Restoration
Pursuing restoration project in the Nakdong Estuary, in conjunction with Nakdong Estuary Eco-Centre and the International Society of Ecological Restoration, to eliminate invasive plants and plant birds-friendly vegetation. A large proportion of the conservation work here would involve public engagement and raising awareness, requiring further collaboration efforts.
Baengnyeong Island Eco-Tourism
Supporting develpment of eco-tourism on Baengnyeong Island, as part of inner korean work as well as the airport development works, and the long-term commitment to conservation on the island, in conjunction with Incheon KFEM and others.
Bird Strikes & Sustainable Airport Development
Working to raise awareness of the bird strike risk generally and specifically yat multiple sites nationally, with closer engagement currently in airport plans proposed for Saemangeum, Gadeokdo and Baengneongdo, and involvement also with Jeju 2, Gyeonggi International within the Hwaseong Wetlands, with various groups and new national alliance.
