It is my pleasure to write to all members of Birds Korea after a long (unintended) hiatus.
This is Su-Yeon (Angela) Choi, who has been a rather distant supporter of Birds Korea since my first contact with the organization back in ca. 2013. Since then, I have engaged myself in the Masters Studies in Landscape Architecture as well as in professional experiences in multiple countries, while most recently relocating to Dublin. I have returned to become a more active member now to support in a way that I can be of most use, especially after encountering all the various ways different cultures engage in birdwatching and conservation efforts, in particular in Korea, US, the Netherlands, Switzerland and now in Ireland.
The most pertinent way I thought in the past decade to be helpful for Birds Korea’s efforts was to reconfigure our web presence. The absence of a dedicated web manager during this time has resulted in our website becoming more of an archive, without recent updates on our ongoing activities. I also believed that it would be greatly beneficial to consolidate our various web presences that we currently operate (Korean and English websites, blog site, and social media pages) into one singular source for all things Birds Korea related. Regarding this, I have recently discussed with Dr. Nial Moores as well as several other related stakeholder members, and also thought to share information on this project with the wider members here, hence I write to you today.
First and foremost, the goal of this Website Re-Structure and Management Project is to make sure our website accurately disseminates news regarding current activities as well as supports our activities with functionalities that members need for our work. Also, we want to appeal to the younger generation by offering a fresher look and feel, while, on the other hand, also delivering a professional presence for the researchers, experts and governmental entities as well. To this aim, we have come up with a structure of dividing the main active site areas into two, with the first area, called “Community,” offering a more casual and approachable image, and the second area, called “Science,” offering a more weighted and professional image.
I include here relevant pages from the draft project proposal, and plan on gathering many feedbacks in the coming months and to continue to share progression of the project.

I truly hope to utilize this opportunity to transform our website to function and to represent Birds Korea more appropriately.
If you perhaps have any and all pertinent feedback or ideas regarding this topic, please do not hesitate to forward them to me (angela.choi@birdskorea.org) or comment here below.
Many thanks for your attention to this matter and wishing you all peaceful end of year times.
